The first Sunday in February is traditionally the date that Belmonters are invited to make a donation to the O.N.E./Barnes Scholarship Fund. For about 25 years, we have supported this outreach program to residents of Edgehill and their extended families. Your donation will assist in educational expenses, which will improve their employment opportunities.

This program was initiated by Rev. Bill Barnes when he was the pastor at Edgehill UMC. It is now administered under the auspices of the Organized Neighbors of Edgehill. An average of three individuals graduate each year and 2020 was no exception. Degrees were awarded in entrepreneurship, history, and social work from Belmont, Birmingham Southern, and Tennessee State University to students who received scholarships. This year, nine scholarships were awarded with stipends of $2400 to full-time students. Five members of our church were willing to serve as partners/mentors to scholarship holders. Last year, well over $4,000 was contributed for scholarships directly through the church.

Members can give online or text “BELMONT ONE” to 73256 to give using your mobile device. This number will never send unsolicited texts to you. To cancel further messages, text STOP. If you need assistance with text giving, text HELP. Standard text message and data rates may apply.
